When you've had the privilege of photographing a family through so many milestones, each session begins to feel less like a photoshoot and more like catching up with old friends. We first met Kacee and Eric while documenting their engagement, and since then we've celebrated their wedding day, maternity session, welcomed their daughter through newborn portraits, and now found ourselves back beneath the redwoods for another chapter of their story.

There's something especially meaningful about returning to a place that has held memories before. Years ago, these same winding boardwalks and towering redwoods served as the backdrop to their engagement photos. This time, instead of planning a wedding, they arrived with a curious toddler eager to explore every trail and soak in the wonder that only little ones seem to find so naturally. Watching a family return to a location with entirely new eyes is one of the greatest joys of what we do.

One of the reasons we continue to love photographing families in the redwoods is because they invite everyone to slow down. There isn't pressure to perform or sit perfectly still. Instead, children are free to explore, parents can simply enjoy being together, and the session naturally unfolds around genuine interaction rather than carefully posed moments.

Little hands reaching up to mom and dad, giggles echoing through the trees, stopping to investigate something interesting along the trail, bringing the dogs along for a walk (yes, Oakley and Aria are always welcome on camera) - those are often the photographs families treasure most years later. They're reminders of personalities, stages, and relationships that change far more quickly than we realize in the moment.

One of the greatest honors of our work is being invited back - not just once, but over and over again. It means we aren't simply documenting individual milestones; we're preserving a family's story as it unfolds. Looking back through Kacee and Eric's galleries, you can see the progression from two people excitedly planning a future together to becoming parents and now embracing all of the joy, adventure, and beautifully ordinary moments that come with raising their daughter.

It's a reminder that photographs become more valuable with time. Each session builds upon the last, creating a visual legacy that tells a much bigger story than any single day ever could.

Whether it's your first family session or your fifth, our hope is always the same - to create images that feel honest, joyful, and true to this season of life. The redwoods remain one of our favorite places to do exactly that, offering timeless beauty while allowing families the freedom to simply be together.
