Hannah & Sam are among the many couples who had to make difficult decisions surrounding their 2020 wedding. They ultimately chose to postpone their wedding to July 2021. While an extra year of anticipation for your wedding day can feel daunting, it can also build a lot of excitement when the day finally arrives. As soon as we walked through the doors of A’BULAE, we felt that high level of excitement from Hannah & Sam’s friends and family that were in the early stages of the day.
As getting ready finished, Hannah prepared to see Sam for the first time on their wedding day at Mears Park. Maid of Honor, Bailey, helped Hannah through the busy streets and stood closely for any tissues that were needed… Spoiler - we were tearing up at the most intimate first look you could ever hope for in Downtown St. Paul!
Yes - if you wear a veil as long as Hannah’s, we will be inviting ourselves underneath the veil with you and your partner, regardless of how hot it is. No surprise, Hannah & Sam’s wedding day was very hot and we’re so glad we got them under the veil!
After Hannah & Sam’s first look and couple portraits, the wedding party joined us in the park! We were thrilled to have so many excited participants and their energy was felt through each photo!
Everyone quickly escaped indoors to the air conditioning as photos finished. What lay ahead was the best yet - the ceremony.
If you’ve looked at any pictures of A’BULAE before, you’ve probably noticed they have one of the most incredible ceremony spaces in the Twin Cities. Their Downtown St. Paul venue boasts a gorgeous rooftop with city views and a view of the Minnesota Capitol Building. Now that we’ve set the scene, you’ll understand why Hannah & Sam’s ceremony was so memorable.
In case you scrolled too quickly through those - let’s recap. An incredible wedding party walked down the aisle before their friends tied the knot. Hannah walked down the aisle with both parents and Sam teared up as she made her way to him (again, we cried because how sweet is that). They picked close friends to take part in their ceremony from officiating to sharing readings. They read personalized vows to one another, exchanged rings, and finally (after an extra year of waiting) sealed their love with a first kiss as husband and wife!
Following the ceremony of their dreams, they headed to Barrel Theory Beer Company for a few drinks in celebration.
Before heading back to A’BULAE, we stole the newlyweds for a few photos. We are huge fans of urban wedding photography and downtown areas tend to fit the bill pretty well. We snuck into an alley near Barrel Theory and captured some newlywed magic.
Once back at A’BULAE, it was easy to take in the beauty and simplicity of Hannah & Sam’s elegant decor. From the hand lettered welcome sign to wedding photos from their family members, the venue’s chic vibes highlighted the personalized items around the reception space.
Hannah and Sam kicked off the party, followed quickly with cake cutting and speeches from their Maid of Honor, Best Man, Brother of the Bride, and Father of the Bride. The speeches spoke greatly to the character of both Hannah and Sam. They also spoke to the depth of their love not only for each other but for their friends and family. Their love was certainly felt within the ballroom.
Hannah and Sam waltzed onto the dance floor and showed off their best dance moves (which were quite impressive by the way). Following the newlyweds’ first dance as husband and wife, they shared dances with parents. All three dances radiated excitement for their new life together in marriage.
As the dance floor opened, we snuck Hannah and Sam away to the rooftop. With their ceremony arch still in place, we took time to let them soak in a moment of solitude. While resting and recharging, their happy energy continued to grow and we captured some timeless portraits.
We returned indoors to the dance floor to find some of the best dance moves we’ve seen happening. Family and friends blended together as the tunes continued. So much laughter and joy was shared during our time celebrating Hannah and Sam!
